What We Do

Alfie’s Dream For Greyhounds was set up in October 2019.

Our charity was named after an ex-racing greyhound called Droopy’s Alfie.

Alfie came to us and was rehomed but after a few months, Alfie fell ill, deteriorated and could hardly walk.

After a few visits to the vet, and lots of discussions, the decision was taken to get Alfie to the vet hospital in Stirling. The vet advised that Alfie needed to have an MRI scan which would cost over £2000.

A few people got together to raise the money to get the MRI scan done . Alfie got his appointment and we took him to the hospital but the news was not good. Alfie had spinal cancer in three places which couldn’t be operated on. This was a huge shock to us all.

Alfie came home to be nursed until we couldn’t do any more for him. We had a good 4 months with Alfie after the scan. Whatever Alfie wanted, he got. He had everything from McDonald’s Happy Meals to steaks and ready meals, which he enjoyed. We got sheepskin slings, memory foam mattresses, every single thing Alfie could ever want, or need.

After 4 months of care Alfie deteriorated to the point we couldn’t do any more for him. The decision was made to send Alfie over Rainbow Bridge. One of the hardest days of my life.

The money that wasn’t used was put towards starting Alfie’s Dream For Greyhounds.

Our mission is to help every greyhound that comes into the care of Alfie’s Dream For Greyhounds find a loving forever home.
